Holding a formal Ball to celebrate World Rotaract Week is a long-standing tradition in Western Australia. The 2001 WA Rotaract State Ball was held at the Royal Perth Yacht Club on Friday 9th March, and was organised by the Rotaract Club of South Perth. It was a very enjoyable night, with 88 people attending, including 31 Rotaractors from 4 districts (9450, 9470, 9500, and 9750) and 11 Rotarians

The Rotarians present on the night mostly came from District 9470, with just one from District 9450 attending. We were very honoured to welcome RI Director Ken & Di Collins, DG Brian & Marie Guest (D9470), DGE Ian & Margie Wright (D9470), DGN Ed & Lorraine Reed (D9470), and IPDG Graham & Anne Brown (D9470), as well as two members of the Rotary District Rotaract Committee, and a Rotarian each from the Rotary Club of West Perth and the Rotary Club of Subiaco.

The evening started at 7:30 pm, with pre-dinner drinks and socializing until 8:30 pm. The night was opened by the President of the South Perth Rotaract Club, DRRE Simone Collins. All Rotaractors and Rotarians were welcomed and invited to celebrate both World Rotaract Week and the International Year of the Volunteer. We also farewelled a Rotaractor of 11 years, PDRR Marina Kondakov, who moved interstate a couple of weeks after the Ball. Dinner was then served, then the music was turned up and everyone encouraged to dance the night away.

The aim of the night was to have fun, and Rotarians and Rotaractors alike did just that - many happily chatted to each other on the balcony overlooking the river or at their tables, or danced. Some Rotaractors and Rotarians took the opportunity to dress up in line with the them - thank you to Karl, Vyt and Sandy from the Rotaract Club of Thornlie, Gintaras from the Rotaract Club of Sydney City, and Bev Poor from the Rotary Club of Ascot for going to the effort to put costumes together!
