Member & Board Inductions in 2004/2005
At our first meeting for 2005, we arrived at the Manning Memorial Bowling Club to find that our meeting area had been hired to someone else! So after a few very noisy meetings in the bar area, and a couple of interim meetings at a member's house, we finally found a new venue back in the heart of South Perth - the South Perth Learning Centre.
Our club started the year with 3 members, and ended the year with 10.
See inductions in another year: 2000/01 - 2001/02 - 2002/03 - 2003/04 - 2004/05 - 2005/06 - 2006/07 - 2007/08 - 2008/09
Leisha Saunders
Formerly a Rotaractor in Arizona, USA, while there on exchange, Leisha was inducted into the Rotaract Club of South Perth by President Simone Collins on 1st June 2005. Leisha first started participating in our club activities in August 2004, and we had planned to induct her in October, but the lucky girl travelled back to the USA for a while, and later spent some time in Sydney as well before we got to see her again!
It looks like we forgot to take a photo at the time of her induction, but we have a photo of Leisha at that meeting with her brand new name badge. :)
Leisha's travelling saw her leave the club later in 2005. She is now living in the UK!
Kym Gaggin
Kym was inducted as a member of the Rotaract Club of South Perth on 27th October 2004 by President Simone Collins. Kym first started participating in our club's activities in July 2004.
Kym served as Vice President in 2005/06, and she made the most awesome "Rotaract" cakes. ;) We were very disappointed when class clashes prevented her from attending anymore in early 2006.
Kym is now Kym Barrenger, having married Peter in January 2006.
Samar, Divyakant "Diku" and JaiKrishna "Jay" Patel
Samar, Diku and Jay, three International Students from Kenya studying at a nearby university, were inducted as members of the Rotaract Club of South Perth by President Simone Collins on the 13th October 2004 (though Diku and Jay were actually absent from that meeting as Diku had classes every Wednesday, so they were inducted in spirit!). They first started participating in our club's activities in August 2004.
They returned home to Kenya for the summer holidays at the end of 2004, and while we had expected to see them again when the new semester started, last we heard, Samar was studying in Kenya instead. We really enjoyed learning more about Kenya while they were with us, and hope they check out the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central!
Tania Clohessy
Tania was inducted as a member of the Rotaract Club of South Perth on 28th July 2004 by President Simone Collins. Tania first started participating in our club's activities in April 2004.
Tania last participated in club activities in late 2005.
Andrea Fyfe, Richard Taylor and Veronica Grasso
Andrea, Richard and Veronica were all inducted as members of the Rotaract Club of South Perth by President Simone Collins at the "joint" Changeover Night with the Rotary Club of Mill Point on 2nd July 2004. While we normally make inductions of new members a very special event, with photos of each individual induction made, Mill Point only allocated us a very short amount of time to conduct our full changeover plus the inductions, so we didn't have time for the usual photos...
Andrea first started attending South Perth events in February 2004, and Richard and Veronica both made their debut in March. All were very active members of the club, with Richard serving as President and Veronica as Secretary in 2005/06.
Unfortunately for us, we lost Richard later in 2006 and Andrea in early 2007, both due to study commitments, and Veronica in late 2007 when she moved to Bullsbrook after marrying.
Rotaract Club of South Perth Board of Directors
With the club starting the year with 3 members, the 2004/2005 Board of the Rotaract Club of South Perth consisted of just Simone Collins (President & Treasurer) and Maya Kraj-Krajewski (Vice President & Secretary). A combined (and rather unsatisfactory) Changeover Night was held with the Rotary Club of Mill Point (who was then one of our two sponsoring Rotary Clubs, but no longer fulfills that role) on 2 July 2004.
